Our gentle Golden Retriever Jane was such a sweet girl.
She was a big strong dog but so gentle in her actions and nature. She was quite happy to be lowest ranking of the three Golden Retrievers we had back then never showing any signs of wanting to challenge for a higher position. Not that it would have done her any good if she tried as, Fern was top dog and had no intention of being ousted and Barley wanted to be top dog but sadly didn’t live long enough to get it!
Jane was yet another Golden Retriever that came to us from Maggie’s kennel. When Fern went back to Maggie to have her last littler Jane came to stay as a companion for Barley.
When Fern came back after her pups were weaned it was clear that Jane had really settled in with us and Maggie decided if we wanted to we could keep Jane. We’d grown so fond of her and the three of them got on so well together we just couldn’t say no so ownership of Jane transferred to us and suddenly we had three big bumbley Golden Retrievers.

It was fantastic despite the hard work and the creative packing of the car that we had to become expert at if going on holiday with them.
As our kids were were pretty grown up by then (Jen 20 and Stu 16) we only had one summer holiday where Stu came with us – 3 dogs in the boot, luggage and Stu on the back seat.
She joined our family in 2006 when she was nearly 5 years old and was with us until the spring of 2014.
We called her the polar bear! She had a broad head and muzzle, an almost black nose and large paws.
From day one it was clear Jane was a very affectionate dog. If we were sitting on the sofa she would come up and lean in to your leg and place her head on your thigh. She was even known to nod off like this on occasions! She just loved to be gently fussed and the way she would look at you made it impossible to resist.

We said a very sad farewell to our gentle Golden Retriever Jane in the spring of 2014. It had been a privilege to have spent so many happy years with such a lovely dog. She made a big impression for such a quiet gentle dog and is never forgotten.
